Star is self illuminating
Planet gets light from star (sun).
Since earth and other planets revolves
around sun and upon it's own
axis ,there is day and light.

self illuminating have only day ,no night( some indian artists who painted mural symbols on sun believe ,such stars have sandhya-samay as transition period which changes the sunlight patterns )
